Your Visit to Time for Lime Helps the Animals

When Junie Kovacs first arrived on Koh Lanta over 20 years ago, she was struck by the large number of stray dogs roaming the streets. Many of them were starving, injured, and in need of medical care. The nearest veterinarian was hours away. Without any sterilization efforts, the stray animal population was growing out of control. Locals often saw the stray dogs as pests, and many endured abuse.

For Junie, ignoring their suffering wasn’t an option. Instead of leaving, she stayed—and turned her love of food into a way to help Koh Lanta’s animals.

Making a Difference

Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW) began on the original Time for Lime property, with the support of tourists who attended cooking classes. In 2005, Lanta Animal Welfare moved to its own location, offering services like sterilization, vaccinations, veterinary care, and community education.

Koh Lanta is now nearly free of stray animals—a rare achievement for any Thai island. LAW has sterilized and vaccinated around 60,000 animals over the years, helping to reduce the stray population by about 90%. The welfare center has transformed the island into a safer place for residents and visitors alike.

From Rescue to Recovery: Sepia’s Story

Lanta Animal Welfare helps animals like Sepia, who was in desperate shape when she arrived. Malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from scabies, Sepia had lost all her fur.

With dedicated care, she was nursed back to health and is now thriving with her new forever family. Your support makes stories like Sepia’s possible.
